Welcome!

I'm Suzie, a contemporary mixed media artist and pattern designer.

I am a lover of bright colour, big and bold expression, travel and finding the beauty in the unexpected.

ABOUT SUZIE

Suzie Cumming is an artist with a focus on bold colour, pattern and texture.  Within her art practice she flips between different mediums and techniques from creating small fabric collages to painting big, bold canvases.  She has been creating and selling her artwork for over 20 years.  With a background in textile design, her previous working career has spanned from designing for furnishing companies, licensing her original artwork, selling through galleries and trade shows and running textile screen printing workshops at graduate and postgraduate level.

"My artwork documents my ‘everyday noticings’ and explores these through my love of colour and an array of mediums such as collage, painting, drawing, photography and printmaking.  The common starting point for my work is close observation, taking the time to really see patterns in nature and colour juxtapositions.  I document theses colours, shapes and thoughts in sketchbooks and then process my ideas back in the studio".

"I may have a loose idea for a collection in mind but I soon find myself lost in the creative process itself and my work can then take more of an intuitive approach, responding to the last creative move as I go along.  Rather like the patchworking of ancient quilts I find myself painting on canvas, cutting and collaging pieces together to make new works of art that reflect my curious and playful sense of exploration."
